artist statement:

I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. The best moments are when a book has pulled me in so deeply that I forget about the world around me for a time. It is as if the elements of the book jump off the pages and live in the real world, which is what my art expresses here. Charcoal comes from the same source as books, so it was the best medium for me to show the magic that books can achieve. I imagine that the figure of the girl in the center of the drawing represents me, surrounded by all the adventures and escaping into the soft light of a cozy twilight library.
