“the addams family” theatre program

Merrimack College’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts, as well as Merrimack’s OnStagers Dramatic Society, was in need of someone to not only create programs for various theatrical productions but to design a systematic layout so that each program from now on would be concise and structured.

  • 8.5 x 11 book

  • InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom

  • 2 months

For systematic layout design, I created a pattern that future program designers for both the VPA and the OnStagers Dramatic Society can structure their programs upon. The overarching grid is a 2-column grid, with .25-inch margins and .125-inches of gutter in between columns. The information that each program needs to include was as follows:

  • Title page: name of show, playwright, director(s)

  • Table of contents

  • Note from the director(s)

  • Cast, crew, Production Team lists: Listed alphabetically by their first name

  • Cast and Production Team biographies, listed similarly to their list pages

  • ‘Thank You’ page

Once I finished the structural design, I went ahead and created this program.

I was given 2 months to collect information, giving me the opportunity to photograph the cast in-costume to create promotional images throughout the program. I threw them on Photoshop to create Fester’s bald head and Lurch’s height, placed them into various gold frames, and scattered them throughout.
