‘blind patriotism is the death of patriotism itself’
In my Independent Studio course, I was assigned to create something that would take up the entirety of my Fall 2020 semester. With no direction except for the due date, it was up to the students to figure out their passion project. This was mine.

Taking inspiration from the political climate from the last 4 years, my project wishes to display corruption in America and its lasting effects on American history.
The red stripes contain 160 politicians who were charged and found guilty of breaking the law while holding public office. These charges ranged from perjury and inside trading to fraud and intimidation. These officials were elected and swore to “serve the people.” However, in reality, they only served the interest of themselves.
The American people, unbeknownst to these criminals, celebrate the nation as the “greatest in the world.” They can be seen in the blue and white area of the flag.
The work calls upon both of these parties: if we stay blindly supportive of our country and its leaders, they will continue to believe these behaviors are okay. And vice versa.
